Student Reading Level Stages

Stages to Determine the Struggling Reader
Student Reading Level Stages:
Independent Levels:
Texts in which no more than 1 in 20 words are difficult for the reader who has a 95-100% accuracy rate.
Instructional Levels:
Texts in which no more than 1 in 10 words are difficult for the reader who has a 90-94% accuracy rate.
Frustrational Levels:
Texts in which more than 1 in 10 words are difficult for the reader who has less than 90% accuracy rate.

Independent-level texts: This is defined as students who are reading with no or little instructional support.

Instructional-level texts: This is appropriate for small-group instruction when teachers or peers provide assistance before, during or after reading.
