Author Study: Ying Chang Compestine
Ying Chang Compestine is a writer who draws upon her experiences growing up in Wuhan, China. My first favorite book, "Revolution is Not a Dinner Party" portrays a nine-year-old girl who bravely fought against her bullies representing the Red Guard during the Cultural Revolution in China. Ms. Compestine also wrote children's books including "Crouching Tiger" regarding a child's conflicting feelings towards a grandparent from China (not to be confused with the movie "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"), "Boy Dumplings" that illustrates a humorous tale of character relationships with ghosts, and "D is for Dragon Dance" that is an alphabet book explaining the meaning of traditional Chinese holidays.
Not only is Ms. Compestine is an author of children's books but she is writes cookbooks including "Ying's Best One-Dish Meals", "Secrets from a Healthy Asian Cooking" and Secrets of Fat-Free Chinese Cooking."
I would like read more of her works and choose at least two cookbooks to promote a healthy lifestyle and would recommend her books to anyone who is interested in culture, family relationships and history.
